EleMech Case Study:
PARCC Side WWTP - Grand Rapids, MI

North Kent Sewer Authority (NKSA) opened the PARCC Side Wastewater Treatment Plant in November of 2008. This brand new facility was designed to process an average flow of 6 million gallons per day. EleMech Inc. provided the controls for the Sludge Dewatering System and the Inclined Screw Press Conveyor System.
EleMech's control system provided closed loop PID control to motor operated valves responsible for regulating the amount of sludge delivered to the flocculation tanks. It also provided open loop control to the polymer feed systems to regulate the amount of polymer injected into the sludge feed lines.
Larry Campbell, the NKSA Director, has been very pleased with the control systems EleMech provided to the site. "Basically, you can start them up and walk away. They don't require an operator's attention the whole time," said Campbell when discussing the benefits of the control system. "They are pretty low manpower and very low power usage," stated Campbell.

The Panelview Plus Operator Interface units were programmed to provide complete equipment status/ control. The dewatering and conveyor control panels were networked to the plant control system via Ethernet. This project required coordination with the plant systems integrator to allow remote viewing of equipment operational status at the plant SCADA system. The network connection allows EleMech to provide support remotely and make changes to the PLC if necessary.
